November 30, 2005 - Lego Leonbergers

During the month of December, anyone who donates $30 or more to Leonberger Rescue will receive a limited edition Lego Leonberger, created for us by Brickbox. For photos and more information, click here.

October 14, 2005 - The Kansas 5

On October 8, LeoRescue took custody of five Leonbergers from a Kansas puppy mill. The good news is that yet another mill owner has decided Leonbergers aren't worth the expense. The five are on their way to foster homes in Texas, Wisconsin, and California.

October 1, 2005 - Flyball returns!

That's right! Only this time its a race to see who wins collectibles from last spring's Flyball Challenge. The raffle will be held Nov. 5 at the Southeast Leonberger Club specialty. Buy your tickets now!

We are currently averaging four Leos a month coming in to Rescue. The majority of dogs we are receiving have temperament issues that require long-term fostering and careful rehoming. As we say on our information page, a rescue is not a cheap or easy dog. Thanks so much to our foster families, without whom we could not do the work we do.

Speaking of which, if you have the time and capability to help a Leonberger with socialization/shyness issues, we sure could use more foster families. Contact your Regional Representatitve for more information.

June 14, 2005 - The Raffle was a success!

Thanks to your generous ticket purchases (or your rabid desire to own somehting so beautiful), the afghan raffle made over $2500 for Leonberger Rescue, Inc. This money was desperately needed after our flurry of activity in the first half of 2005.

The pace has slowed, but sadly not stopped; our latest rescue is a 9 year old female. She'd never been spayed, and at her routine "we're fostering a Rescue" veterinary exam, it was discovered that she might be pregnant. Not wishing to put her through a pregnancy at her age, the decision was made to spay her. Alas, those lumps weren't puppies, but tumors. Her new forever mom plans to love her as hard as she can in the time she has left... and our Leo girl is soaking it up.

May 25, 2005 - Updates on everything

The afghan raffle - your chance to buy tickets is almost over - sales close June 1!

The flyball challenge - it's a CLOSE race! Have you sponsored your favorite yet?

Most of the Ohio dogs are in their new homes. Many thanks and Leo-licks to our wonderful foster parents, without whom rescuing all these dogs would have been impossible.

April 27, 2005 - Afghan Raffle

You know you wanted the one up for auction at the Specialty, but you weren't at the show, or the bidding got too pricey for you. Well, this time, everyone has an equal chance, as we'll be giving this one away through a drawing. Click here for details and to buy your tickets.

April 18, 2005 - More Ohio Dogs

The good news is that two more high-volume breeders in Ohio have determined that Leonbergers don't make them enough money and are getting out of the breed. The better news is that the dogs were surrendered to Rescue. In addition to the Ohio 7, who are now in their forever homes (click here for updated photos), we now have the Ohio 8 and the Ohio 9. Yes, thats 17 dogs currently in our system. Ages range from young puppies to unsocialized adolescents to sick moms who need some extensive veterinary care.

So far, LeoRescue has handled 30 dogs this year, and it's only April. We need your financial support. And every little bit helps; maybe you can give up your daily latte for a couple of weeks and donate the $15 you saved to us. If 100 people do that, we're up $1500, and that's no small sum.

April 7, 2005 - Leos in the Lanes Flyball Challenge

A new fundraiser for Leonberger Rescue - click here for details.

March 25, 2005 - Check out the afghan!

Not going to the Specialty? (Neither is this Webminister <pout>) Check out what you'll be missing - the Leo Fur afghan that many of our Leonberger owners have been working on for the past year. Fur was collected, spun, knit, and then assembled into this afghan, which will be auctioned off at the National Specialty on April 2, with proceed to benefit both LeoRescue and the Leonberger Health Foundation. Sadly, you have to be present to win. Maybe you can arrange with someone at the show to relay your bids over the phone?

Jan Parola, who organized the afghan effort, has enough squares for a second afghan, so stay tuned to this space for an opportunity to win that afghan. For this one, you will NOT have to be present to win!

March 22, 2005 - Photos of the Ohio 7

Meet the Ohio 7. Apparently Paris and Nicole were "slumming" at the mill and feel that they're destined for MUCH better things.

March 19, 2005 - More Mill Dogs Rescued

Today Susan Catling, our Rep for Virginia and surrounding environs, received 7 Leonbergers from an individual in Ohio who had decided to get out of the Leonberger breeding business. Unlike the Texas Leos, these dogs appeared to be in good health and well cared for. Susan is arranging to get the dogs checked out by a veterinarian and a behaviorist before placing them in foster care.
